Great Giveaway

I have just entered a great giveaway on www.touchofsunshine.blogspot.com. Check out this blog and enter her giveaway while there. Until next time...

New swap

I have just entered a new swap on A Primitive Journey Board. This is a chain swap. I have never been on one before and it sounds so exciting. I have participated in several swaps and I love them but you always know who your partner is.
Well on this one, the first lady sends out 5 items to the next person on the list and they get to choose what items they want to keep and then replace the items with their own creations and ship to the next person on the list. I don't think you know when you get the package. This sounds like so much fun and the mystery just makes it better.
If you haven't tried A Primitive Journey, you should check it out. www.aprimitivejourney.proboards.com They are always having something fun going on. And when I get my package, I will be sure and post pics to let you see what is going on. Until next time...

Happy Father's Day

I hope everyone had a wonderful Father's Day. I cooked dinner and my family came to celebrate Father's Day with their Dad, Uncle, Grandpa. An entire housefull of adults and kids.
I fried chicken with homegrown green beans and new potatoes, mac & cheese, biscuits and gravy. I also fixed 3 cakes so everyone had something they liked. We had a wonderful time and all ate too much.
But I would also like for everyone to remember the soldiers who are fighting for our freedom and could not be with their families this Father's Day. Say a special prayer for them and their families that God will ease their heartaches and give them strength until they can be reunited. Until next time...

Garden Time!

I'm so excited. My garden is finally producing veggies and I love them. I picked green beans this morning and am going to have them for dinner tomorrow with fried chicken. And I have cucumbers. So today I went to the market and bought home grown tomatoes (mine aren't ripe yet) and new potatoes and tomorrow I am going to chow down. Take a peek at what I found. Until next time...

Homecoming

Yesterday was our homecoming at my church and I took banana pudding and fried apple pies for my desserts. After the dinner was over, I had several people tell me they had never eaten banana pudding made like that. The bowl was wiped clean.

Then I had a lady tell me that the singers wanted to know what a fried apple pie was. When she let them taste hers, they couldn't believe how good it was. They told her that they had never eaten something that good. So they went to get them one and they were all gone.
This makes me really sad. No one cooks homecooked meals anymore. I told the lady what was so sad was that after our generation, homemade food will no longer be. Have we gotten so busy that we have lost our heritage?
So I decided that although my daughter is completely uniterested in learning any of this, her daughter Sarah is. So I am going to start teaching her everything I know about cooking and crafting. She is only 8 but has begged me to teach her since the age of 4.
So yesterday I taught her how to stitch by hand. She is making her own corn cob doll. It is not finished yet because little girls do get bored easily, but here are some pics of what she has done. And belive it or not, she really listened and did a really good job for her first time. Maybe she inherited it from her Gram.LOL
Here's Sarah wrapping her corcob doll. Second picture is her sewing the seam together. Third picture is of the doll after she painted it. We have the arms ready to attach and then she has to make the dress and bonnet. I explained to her that in primitive days, this was the only way little girls got dolls because people were to poor to buy them. She really seemed to enjoy herself and I am really proud of her. Until next time...

Great Rummage Sale!

My daughter LK and I went rummaging today and oh my gosh, I could not believe what I found for pennies!
I got a wood bread box with hinges on the top and door closing down for $1.00, zinc lids for 50 cents apiece, old mill spools for $2.00 each and an old small cabinet that hangs on the wall for $1.00. I couldn't believe I was so lucky. My only regret was that we didn't go there first because the lady said that it had been picked over all day. I can't imaging what I missed. (darn). Oh well, I'm just going to enjoy what I did get.
I haven't had time to take pictures so I will have to post them tomorrow, I just love rummage sales!!!
Until next time...

Yard Sale Time

Growing up, my grandfather (Papa) played the fiddle and I loved to hear him play. It was soothing to me when nothing else worked. So one night when Chester took me to this country show in Pigeon Forge, I heard a young man who played so close to my Papa that it made me miss him. I decided right then that I was going to learn to play the fiddle.

So after coaxing Chester, he bought me a fiddle and I did learn to play. I'm not great but I do allright. So now I collect fiddles. Not just any fiddle but old ones and pictures or other fiddle things that catch my attention.
Never in my wildest dreams would I have believed that I would find this picture at a yard sale and only $3.00. I have never seen one like it. It almost looks like it has been decoupaged, but it hasn't. Well anyway, I fell in love with it and not knowing where I am going to put it, I still had to have it.LOL And Nancy, it was made in Canada! Amazing! So see what you think of my fiddle picture. Isn't that an unusual picture?

And now for my other treasures. I found a wood crate for 25 cents. As soon as I saw it, I could just envision primming it up and adding prim pumpkins in it. I just wish I could find a pumpkin sign to put on both sides. I'll have to work on that.

Then I found a cutting board that I could just see primmed with some prim fixins on it.

And how cute is this bird house. I can just see it primmed with a real nest and bird sittning inside. All I have to do is decide what color I want to make it.Hmm.

I also found 2 sifters that I am not sure what I want to do with yet but for 25 cents for both, I grabbed them.

Finally, I had to have a food squisher last year and after hunting all over the county, Chester finally took me to this antique store in Townsand and found just what I needed. Only problem was, he found 2 and would only pay for one. So I had to take the large one so I could put up tomato juice but I really wanted the small one for decoration. So today I conned Laura Kay into going there and lo and behold it was still there! So I snatched it up. It was $18.00 but worth every penny to me. And it still has the paper on it with the original price of $2.19. I can't find a year on it but at that price, it has to be old. But I can just see one of those pesky mice sleeping in it. Yuk, I hate rats!!! Check this out.
So for our first rummage sale of the season, I think I did really well. And Laura Kay loaded up on her some goodies for cheap prices too so we both had a great day just hanging out together and grabbing all the rummage specials. How was your weekend?
