Oh, The Convenience of Modern Technology!

Growing up my Grandmother put up chow chow with an old meat grinder. You know, the one that you put the veggies in and turn it round and round, etc. And every few refills you had to take it apart and dig the stuff out and start all over again.
When she quit canning she gave me her meat grinder, which I still have, and that's what I used for chow for 30 years! By the time I put up a run, my back was killing me. And even though I had a mop bucket under the grinder the floors were still nasty where it leaked.YUK!
Well, a few years ago I begged my DH to buy me a Kitchen Aid Mixer for Christmas and he reluctantly paid for it.LOL Then I talked my brother, Buster, into buying me a meat grinder attachment for it. Well just let me tell you it is worth every penny!!!
I put up chow tonight and all you have to do is put the veggies in it and it grinds it right out!! No turning, no emptying out and I got finished in 1/3 of the time.
I wonder what my Grandma would have thought about this?
I made it with a processer but it didn't grind it as much as the meat grinder does. Thank God for modern technology!!!!!

What is chow????????????
I have never heard of it. It must be delicious if you spent that much time making it all those years. It is food I presume?

Hmmmm....I give....what's chow chow??? (Besides the furry dog kind, I haven't a clue!) But I do know those grinders....my mom still makes her turkey stuffing in one and she has a Kitchen Aid!! Hope you're having a great holiday weekend! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

I have never heard of chow either! Except Puppy Chow, but I assume you are not making dog food. :-p

I have been trying to talk hubby into a mixer for years. He gets us all other kinds of 'big' appliances cheap or free, but his company doesn't sell mixers. (He's an appliance installer.)

Blessings, Jessica

Jessica if you cook and bake, tell your hubby that nothing compares to a Kitchen Aid!!
You can buy attachments for slicing or shredding salad ingredients, meat grinder, make ice creamand more. Over the years I have had a Sunbeam and an Oster but they didn't hold a light to a Kitchen Aid. I love it!!!! I hope you all understand chow chow nowm, Valerie
