My New Found Love of Osnaburg

I have thought and thought about what fabric old timers used for stitcheries and have come up brain dead.LOL I know it is some kind of linen but can't find one that is as thin as the doilies that I find at sales.
Well I came across a pattern similar to this runner in Create and Decorate and had to have one for my dining table. And the directions said to use a porous fabric. So once again I put on my thinking cap and the only fabric I could think of was osnaburg and I LOVE it!!
I coffee stained me some up and freehand drew this vine design on the fabric and stitched it with hunter green. It's not finished yet but I just couldn't wait to show you the results. To me this looks just like something you would find in an old attic. When I get the flowers on it, I will post a pic of the finished product. For now, see what you think.

Happy Memorial Day!!

I want to take this time to wish everyone a Very Happy Memorial Day!
We are having a cookout and family time to celebrate. While you are celebrating please remember why we have this holiday and say a prayer for our soldiers. We have this liberty because of their bravery!
I want to say THANK YOU!!! to all the soldiers that have sacrificed their life so that I may be free. I also want to say THANK YOU! to all the families who have lost loved ones fighting for my freedom. I pray that God will give you a special blessing today.
And I want to say THANK YOU to all the soldiers that are fighting right now for our freedom. We owe these brave men and women more than we can ever repay them. I pray that those of you who have men and women fighting right now will have a very special blessing on this Memorial Day!!
GOD BLESS THE U.S.A!!!!!!!!!

Where I Play

Square dancing is our heritage in the South and it has been lost to the younger generation and that saddens me. My Grandfather played the fiddle and called square dancing for all the church fund raisers and the community get togethers. So I was raised hearing the fiddle and listening to him sing some of the tunes and this was something that I truly enjoyed.
So since my daughter owns her own day care, I told her I wanted to teach her pre schoolers how to square dance and line dance. I chose very simple steps for the square dancing but their favorite step was putting the little bird in a cage and putting the old crow in the cage. They fought over who got to go in the middle so I had to let them both take their turn.LOL And I taught them the Cuban Shuffle that I learned in Silver Sneakers at the gym.
So my daughter decided to have a school year ending with the kids putting on a square dance and line dance event for their parents and family. Well it was a HOOT!! I can't wait until she gets me the video so I can post it on here and give you the laugh of your life. These kids really put on their best performance and they are only 4-5 years old.
So today you will have to settle for watching the kids play the fiddle. I took my fiddle to the day care and after their dance lesson, I let them each have a turn playing it. They laughed so hard when I told them that the bow is made from a horse's tail. So here's the group waiting in line for their turn and this is my great niece playing her tune. Enjoy

My Rummage Sale Treasure

Have you ever wanted something and it had to be exactly what you wanted? No alterations or substitutions, the exact thing! Well for over a year I have wanted an old cigar box to fill with pears. Weird, I know,LOL but that's what I wanted. I have searched and searched for an old cigar box and around here that's like hunting a needle in a haystack.
And Sat. WALA!!! I found my cigar box and it was $1.00!!!!! I grabbed it and here is what it looked like before. Well I have actually already mod podged the labels back on.

Unfortanately, the front label and top label are missing. But I have attached the inside and side labels. Here is what it looks like now.

I decided not to attach the label to the front of the box. I just couldn't make myself mess it up. What do you think? Does it need a label on the front or leave it alone? I only need one more item to have that cabinet looking like I want it to.
Until next time...

Is The Laugh On Me Or Bree?

Here's soemthing to give you all a good laugh. But is the laugh on me or Bree?
Brittany (Bree) is my niece and my sidekick. Poor Bree has been helping me with things that I don't know how to do for years.
Well for the last month I have not been able to use my speakers on my computer. I have tried everything to see what was wrong to no avail. So I finally called Bree. Bree told me it had to be plugged up to the computer. I told her there were no holes to plug it into. Well we were both right.
She came down tonight and checked it out. Well it was plugged in allright. I had muted it!!!!!ROFLMBO!!!!! So now I have speakers, Bree has a migraine and she is threatening to take my puter away!!!!!!!!!
I think I'm in real trouble this time! (OOPS)

Wendy from Ravenwood Whimzies had a pinkeep swap and because I have developed a love for pinkeeps, I joined in on the fun and got Debbie Kiefer from Goat Creek Bakery for my partner.
Well my pinkeep came today and I LOVE it!!!! Debbie made me a crow sitting on a sunflower nodder pinkeep and it is ADORABLE!! It has a little pocket on the front wing that you can keep a needle book in!!! She also included some Snickerdoodle candle tarts and they smell sooooo yummy!
Debbie this is just AWESOME!! Thank you so much for my crow nodder pin keep!!
This was such a fun swap and a great way to meet new people.
Head over to Ravenwood Whimzies and check out all the great pinkeeps that were made for this swap.

What I've Been Working On

The first time I saw this pattern I just HAD to have it. Vicky from www.oldehomesteadbarn.com designed it and I LOVE this pattern!!!
Well I bought it the first day it came out and started working on it. Vicky's used an old spool for hers but unfortunately these are not available where I live so I had to think of something else to use for the watermelon. And then it hit me! What about a tree swing? So my brother cut the limb off a tree that fell during the hail storm for my base and I love it!! (The hail storm is another story!)
Then I have several pieces of old barn wood from my daughter's farm and decided to use that for the base. And here is my version of Vicky's awesome pattern. So what are you working on?

Sarah's First Cooking Lesson

My Granddaughter, Sarah, wants to learn to cook and sew. Well I have been helping her sew but this bakery in our town had a cooking lesson for children and her Mom entered her to take the lesson.
Sarah made her first apple pie and yummmmmmm it was so good. Since I am the one who helps her cook and sew, she wanted to share it with me. And since I cannot make a decent apple pie, she shared her recipe with me. How sweet is that?

Something I Have Never Seen

I love antiques! My kids know I do even if they don't understand it.LOL Well I thought I had seen it all until I got my Mother's Day gift from Laura, my youngest daughter. She found this at a yard sale and the man told her he was sure it could be painted and made to look better. Well she laughed and told him he just didn't understand, this is the way I would want it.LOL So have you ever seen one of these. I'm not telling what it is until I hear some responses. By the way, I LOVE
It!!!!

I haven't deciced if I am going to leave it just like it is or make something to fit inside it. Hmmmmm, pin keep??? Or daisies??? I have to think about this.LOL

It's Catch Up Time!

Well it's been awhile and now it's catchup time.
I woke up on Saturday before Easter and couldn't breathe, literally. I called the doctor and he wasn't in so I just did what I knew he would do. I had to start steroids and believe me they do not agree with my system.LOL I am mean, hateful, can't sleep and can't sit still. But if I move I can't breathe so I am mean again.(poor hubby and kids)LOLOL.
But just when I thought this was going to be a miserable day, I received a package in the mail! Brenda from The Rusty Thimble had sponsored a bingo on PAFA and I was one of the winners!! Here is what Brenda sent me. This is the most adorable little bird pin keep! I have never seen wings done like this and I love the simplicity of it. So Brenda you lit up what was a miserable day! Thank you so much for the bird! She also sent me this little bouquet of dried flowers and it is just adorable!!! I can't believe I was sooooo lucky.
Head over to The Rusty Thimble and take a peek at all her wonderful items.

I am sorry it has taken me so long to post but honestly I have to make myself sit still. I wish I could say this is over but I am still on steroids and still having huge allergy attacks. Remember to say a prayer for me. Hugs, Valerie

Happy Mother's Day

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!! I spent this week with my granddaughter, Sarah, helping her make her Mom a present. Here's what she came up with. She is really good at this sewing thing. She can actually do better stitches than I can. I know her Mom is going to love this and Sarah is soooo proud of it.
